PARAPLANNER

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
This full-time position provides technical support to the advisor, including gathering client data, organizing and maintaining financial documents and data, performing investment research and financial analyses including Teacher’s Retirement Board (TRB) pension estimates and retirement income plans, executing all trades and handling the Model Management platform for all clients. The Paraplanner also holds meetings with hourly consulting clients, performs operational maintenance, services current clients, and supports and participates in the marketing and sales processes.

 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Sales Process

  • Perform follow up phone calls to prospective clients following TRB and State Employee Retirement Board (SERS) workshops
  • Review statements provided by clients and complete Data Factfinder
  • Input updated values into appropriate planning software
  • Create Investment Consolidation flow charts and Cash Flow summaries in Excel
  • Perform analysis of prospects’ investments using Morningstar® and additional preparation as needed
  • Schedule and perform conference calls with prospects and third party insurance and investment companies to obtain information about current insurance policies, annuities, and investment accounts
  • Take meeting notes and upload the debrief to customer relationship management (CRM) system
  • Create Meeting Summary letters for prospects and perform meeting follow up throughout sales process
  • Track production review for monthly sales meetings

Service clients

  • Respond to client questions and concerns regarding general account info, withdrawals, transfers, healthcare, Social Security, financial planning, and investments
  • Review monthly client statements
  • Schedule, prepare, and attend client meetings; debrief meetings; and perform necessary follow up
  • Act as primary contact for advisor’s “E” and “F” clients
  • Maintain model portfolios and manage client accounts within the Model Management platform, and perform semi-annual rebalancing using appropriate criteria
  • Execute all trades and monitor all SWPs, Debit Account Alerts, and Upcoming Advisory Fee Alerts
  • Perform year-end tax loss harvesting analysis and trades in appropriate taxable client accounts
  • Periodically update existing clients’ Retirement Income Plans in Excel
  • Schedule and perform rollover conference calls with clients
  • Create and distribute general and individual informational mailings to clients
  • Input and maintain client cost basis information using ACCESS Tax Lot Accounting
  • Prepare TRB pension estimates and retirement applications for advisor

Operational Maintenance

  • Report team AUM tracking on a monthly basis, monitoring practice growth
  • Maintain monthly data analysis for model portfolios
  • Maintain records of office contact with each client to ensure continuity and quality of service
  • Gather, organize, and submit data for share class conversions
  • Perform any extra reporting or data analysis as required by advisor, and keep records of all processes

Marketing

  • Create quarterly TRB drip email
  • Maintain company Facebook profile
  • Review and edit marketing documents and presentations prior to distribution

Conduct research

  • Source investment analysis and reports using COMMUnity Link®, Morningstar, and third party websites
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis with reliably sourced data

Education and Professional Development

  • Complete CE credits towards all licenses and certifications as needed
  • Read trade journals and other publications, especially Barron’s 
  • Periodically read and discuss books with advisor and associates, recommend reading materials
  • Attend teleconferences, educational events and seminars

 

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/COMPETENCIES

  • BA or BS degree; math, finance, economics, science, engineering or business preferred. Completion of registered Paraplanner program a plus
  • FINRA Series 7, 63 and 65 securities registrations, or successful passing of these exams within 180 days of employment required
  • Insurance license or successful passing of this exam within 1 year of employment required
  • 3+ years of experience in the financial services industry preferred; experience working with National Financial Services processes and forms a plus
  • Willingness to enroll in CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification program a plus
  • Familiarity with financial planning concepts and terminology
  • Familiarity with mutual fund, stock, bond, insurance, and annuity products
  • Familiarity with third-party asset management systems (including how they work, their benefits, and their drawbacks) a plus
  • Exposure to estate planning issues a plus
  • Proficiency with computer programs, including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint and Word).  Familiarity with Morningstar® Advisor WorkstationSM, Argus, Value Line, Forefield Advisor, Morningstar Principia, GoldMine, or ACCESS Tax Lot Accounting a plus.
